Issues of language and spelling have always been at the center of attention of the Jadids. They defended them at the level of national and state security and fiercely fought against threats to the national language. Mahmudhoja Behbudi, Munavvarkari Abdurashidkhanov, Haji Muin, Abdulla Kadiri, Abdulhamid Chulpan and many other progressives published hundreds of articles on national language and spelling that were significant for their time.
The reason for publishing many articles in the national press of Turkestan was the transformation of Uzbek into a secondary language. Historian D. Jamalova notes that this was caused, on the one hand, by the colonization of Turkestan by the Russian Empire. The second reason was the people of Turkestan themselves, who suffered from “indifference” toward their language.
