COLONIAL BANKING-CREDIT SYSTEM IN TURKISTAN: ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE 1911 REPORT OF THE KOKAND BRANCH OF THE UNITED BANK

The article analyzes the 1911 annual report of the Kokand branch of the “United Bank”, stored in the Central State Archive of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Based on the quantitative content analysis method, the financial turnover, administrative and operational expenses and the composition of overdue debts of the branch were studied. The results show that the activities of the branch were mainly directed to financing promissory notes and commodity loans and raw material trade, and its close dependence on the central financial markets of the empire through correspondent accounts is observed. Onomastic analysis of the list of doubtful debts reveals the multi-ethnic (Russian, Jewish, local Muslim) composition of the Kokand trade and financial environment. The article demonstrates the possibilities of studying the colonial economic history of the Turkestan region on the basis of micro-sources.
