Abstract

The article provides a comparative analysis of nominative models characteristic of the formation of new onomastic units in English and Uzbek media discourse. The main focus is on the structural composition, referential characteristics, semantic motivation, and functional activity of new names in media discourse. Units such as Grexit, Dieselgate, Obamacare, and Trumponomics in English media discourse demonstrate the productivity of telescoping, analogical modeling, and anthroponymic nomination. In Uzbek media discourse, names such as Tashkent City, Silk Road Samarkand, Boqiy shahar (Eternal City), and New Uzbekistan University highlight the importance of multi-component nomination, proprialization, hybrid naming, and the institutional individualization of new referents. The analysis shows that the neological nature of a new onomastic unit is not defined solely by the emergence of a new lexical form. The establishment of a stable relationship between existing linguistic units and a new individual referent is also a crucial mechanism of nominative innovation. It is determined that nominative models in English and Uzbek media discourse are shaped not only by the structural possibilities of the language but also by communicative needs, media genres, the institutional environment, and the socio-cultural context.
