Abstract

This study examines the production of secondary polymer raw material from waste expanded polystyrene (EPS) and the investigation of its thermal properties. The waste polystyrene was reprocessed using sorting, cleaning, and dissolution-precipitation methods. The thermal properties of the virgin and reprocessed polystyrene samples were comparatively evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Parameters such as the glass transition temperature, the onset of thermal decomposition, and the temperature corresponding to the maximum decomposition rate were determined. The obtained results serve to evaluate the potential for using the reprocessed polystyrene as a secondary polymer raw material in subsequent processing operations.
